Types of baby carriers explained
Mei Tai Style Baby Carriers are based on a traditional soft chinese baby carrier with a simple design consisting of a square of fabric with four straps. Two of the straps go over the shoulders distributing the weight of the baby across the back; and two straps tie around the waist. It can be used on the front, back or hip.
Pouch Slings are a loop of fabric with a curved seam in the seat creating a deep pocket for baby. They are easy to put on and take off and are ideal for newborns who like to be in more of a laying position. Baby can lay in or seat at the hip, front or back.
Ring Slings are a piece of fabric that has rings on one end. The rings allow infinite adjustment of the lenght of the fabric which adjusts to baby's size, to the carrier's size, and how high or low the baby will be carried. They are easy to take on and take off. Baby can lay in or seat at the hip, front or back.
Wraps (or wraparound) Slings are one long piece of cloth of around 2.5 metres that wraps snugly around the baby. The wrap goes over the carrier's both shoulders and around the waist. The wraps spread the baby's weight to the carrier's hips, shoulders and back. There are many different ways to tie wraparounds, so baby can be at the front, back, hip or nursing.
